Please see below match reports for all Lawn games from 14th October:
Lawn A vs Pinehurst A:
Lawn A secured a good win over a handy Pinehurst team on Saturday. The whole team took ball off of Pinehurst and created loads of pressure throughout the game. We tried new combinations, working together to create a cohesive unit when these changes were implemented. Shooting was incredible and timing was spot on. A bit of a scrappy second half but we managed to secure the win 51-37 with Ava receiving the other teams POM and Shelley receiving coaches POM which shows how good the defence were during this game.
Lawn B vs Croft B
Facing the top of the league, we knew this was going to be a tough match ahead. The first quarter saw Croft show why they are at the top, however we kept calm in order to play our own game against a strong whole court defence. Quarter 1 score 5-12 to Croft.
Quarter 2 saw some lovely play, we worked the ball around and stayed calm under the pressure. This was evident in that we won this quarter 12-10. Q2 score: 17-22 to Croft.
Quarter 3 we came out fighting. With some changes made to defence and attack, we kept to our game plan. Defence worked tirelessly to gain possession with some amazing intercepts from Paige and Millie. The ball was worked around beautifully through court into the shooters, who capitalised on the number of turnovers made by the defence. This meant that we could pull away by 3 goals leading into the last quarter. Q3 score: 32-29 to Lawn.
Into the final quarter and Croft upped the pressure with some good play around the D. However the relentless effort showed by Lawn forced Croft into errors. Ruby and Sara worked the ball into the shooters who maintained their accurate record. A few wayward passes meant Croft crept back to equalise in the final few minutes, however we kept calm and managed to keep to to a draw. POM: Mia John with some excellent shooting in the final quarter! Final score: 42-42
Lawn C Vs Moonraker
The C team came up against a very strong Moonraker team that are unbeaten in the league to date. Moonraker had an extremely experienced defensive duo that Lawn found very hard to break down. Moonraker backed this up with a strong attacking unit which resulted in Lawn trailing 12-3 after the first quarter. Lawn learnt and grew throughout the game having to be more innovative than in previous matches. Despite improving throughout the game Lawn C were defeated 38-22. The team are taking many positives from the game and are already looking forward to the rematch after Xmas. Well done to Holly and Ami for players player and coaches player, respectively.
Lawn D Vs Calne B
Lawn D played a strong Calne B side on Saturday. They started off strongly with some lovely play in attack from Ellie and Megan and some great turn overs in the circle by Molly. Unfortunately Lawn were unable to match the experience of Calne this week but they did not give up and showed determination throughout the game. Calne took a big lead in the second quarter but the squad were not ready to give up. Mae and Ruby played really well in the last quarter with some lovely goals but unfortunately they lost 54-18. Player went to Mae this week for some excellent play and shooting.
